Ukrainian Pysanky Workshop & Fundraiser | Ages 12+

Pysanky (Ukrainian Easter eggs) have become a symbol of peace in Ukraine and around the world. Legend has it that “the more people in the world who continue to teach and make pysanky, the less chance evil will prevail.” All proceeds from this workshop series will go to a Catholic Monastery in western Ukraine helping people who are suffering from war trauma.

Discover the art and the process of pysanky. Participants will use a kistka (a beeswax-filled ancient tool warmed over a candle fire) to draw designs on real (empty/blown-out) eggs between bathing them in bright-colored dyes. Participants will learn about the history, meaning of the colors, and symbols of this Ukrainian art during the workshop. All tools are provided.

The dyes stain, so people are encouraged to dress accordingly. Since this process includes hot beeswax, participants must be aged 12 and up. Those 12 -15 must be accompanied by an adult.

This workshop is on Wednesday, March 13, 5:30 – 8:30pm. Other dates are also available, see below.

Wednesday, March 13 | 5:30pm – 8:30pm
Thursday, March 14 | 5:30pm -8:30pm
Friday, March 15 | 5:30pm – 8:30pm
Saturday, March 16 | 9:00am – 12:00pm

Proceeds support aid to Ukraine. TMA member discount is excluded from this fundraising event. This hands-on Ukrainian Easter Egg event is a fundraiser for a Catholic Monastery in Western Ukraine (Transfiguration of Our Lord Jesus Christ).

This monastery has a center of spiritual and psychological renewal and serves people who are suffering from the strains of war (trauma and addiction). The monastery is working on a repair and expansion project that will allow it to expand capacity to serve and house 18 more people as the people experience healing through the programs offered at the monastery. The money raised through this workshop will specifically help raise money for a kitchen to be added to a new modular building which is being built to serve the 18 additional people.
